Re: Seen any good film lately?
Ultra low budget film -and it doesn't even show! Well, sure there aren't any big fancy effects, like lens flares an' such, but you don't even notice that most of what's happening is these two guys standing (and walking) around and talking because of what actually is happening. And what they actually do (and how that affects their former -or is that future?- selves) gets increasingly creepier as the film progresses I'll give it a and recommend it to anyone that likes the excitement of a well composed SciFi flick!

Re: Seen any good film lately?
Strange things seem to keep happening to me... I just watched an old film called Bad Santa: On the surface it sounds pretty normal and dull and very x-mas speacial feature -just like hundreds of other films: Quote: A miserable conman and his partner pose as Santa and his Little Helper to rob department stores on Christmas Eve. But they run into problems when the conman befriends a troubled kid, and the security boss discovers the plot. But Billy Bob Thornton is a hilarious (but never over-the-top so) anti-heroic 'mall-santa' in this Rated R for pervasive language, strong sexual content and some violence-x-mas story! A few quotes from the film: Quote: Kid: You are really Santa, right? Willie: No, I'm an accountant. I wear this fucking thing as a fashion statement, alright? Quote: Sue: I've always had a thing for Santa Claus. In case you didn't notice. It's like some deep-seeded childhood thing. Willie: So is my thing for tits. Quote: Sue: Fuck me, Santa! Fuck me, Santa! Fuck me, Santa! Quote: Willie: Things are fucked up at the North Pole. Mrs. Claus caught me fucking her sister, now I'm out on my ass. Quote: Kid: Good night, Santa. Good night, Mrs. Santa's sister. Low key feel good comedy for the whole family! WikipediaIMDb

Re: Seen any good film lately?
Another film I didn't know the existence of! District 9 Quote: In 1982, a large alien spaceship stops above Johannesburg, South Africa. Reports suggest that the ship became stranded after a command module separated from the ship and dropped to Earth, nowhere to be found. An exploratory team discovers a group of one million unhealthy and leaderless members of an arthropod-like extraterrestrial species who are given asylum on Earth. Some of these aliens engage in criminal and destructive activities, which lead to demands from the human population for more control. As a result, the aliens – derogatorily referred to as "prawns" – are confined to a government camp inside Johannesburg, called District 9. The camp is secured and, with a massive police presence, soon turns into a slum. In the first decade of the 21st century, Multinational United (MNU) is placed in charge of policing and relocating the now 1.8 million aliens to District 10, a new camp 200 kilometres outside of Johannesburg. They use a private military corporation, headed by Koobus Venter, to enforce the relocation effort with impunity. WikipediaTrailer #1:Rotten Tomatoes: 90%Quote: Technically brilliant and emotionally wrenching, District 9 has action, imagination, and all the elements of a thoroughly entertaining science-fiction classic. Trailer #2:IMDb: 8.4/10ETA: Bloody brilliant film!

I didn't realize there was so much to the movie from just the trailer I saw a while back. Looks great!

Re: Seen any good film lately?
^Yeah, it is rather entertaining; a bit scary, a lot funny and different enough to be worth watching. Now watching Moon which I think is more traditionally scary... Only seen the first third by now, but I definitely like it so far

Re: Seen any good film lately?
This film is more of the watch it by yourself some late night-type: Moon Quote: Moon is a 2009 science fiction/psychological drama film about a solitary lunar employee who experiences a personal crisis as the end of his three-year stint nears. It is the feature debut of director Duncan Jones. Sam Rockwell stars as the employee Sam Bell, and Kevin Spacey voices his robot companion, GERTY. WikipediaAt first I thought it was a cabin-fever type film (which it also is), then I thought it was a technology gone bad type film (which it also is) and then I realised what it was all about... and even then it had a couple of twists! Remember the auto pilot in Wall-E? - the computer in Moon looks pretty much the same but conveys emotions using emoticons: Rotten Tomatoes: 89% Quote: Boosted by Sam Rockwell's intense performance, Moon is a compelling work of science-fiction, and a promising debut from director Duncan Jones. IMDb: 8.0/10 Oh! -And I really like the retro-SciFi look in the moon base: (Even if I find the padded walls a bit strange on a moon base; I mean, it's stationary and won't be attacked by Klingons or anything -so why the effort to make the walls soft???) Another two thumbs up-film!

Re: Seen any good film lately?
I don't think there's a board where I'm not on record for stating that I really don't watch a lot of fantasy. But last night something happened; I watched a fantasy film -and I liked it! Kaena: La prophétie(Kaena: The Prophecy) It begins with the explosion of a BIG spaceship: And then 600 years pass before the rest of the action takes place. metacafe trailer here.Different trailer: Quote: AXIS, a gigantic coiling plant, stretches high above the clouds... At its center is a village whose people are in mortal danger because Axis is withering... it's sap is drying up. The people beg their gods for help... but to no avail. Compelled by a mysterious force, Kaena, a rebellious, high-spirited teenage girl will defy the High Priest and her people's ancestral beliefs to take the perilous journey through the Axis and discover what dark secrets lie beyond the clouds... A dying world, an evil force, a terrible secret. ImdbWikipediaIt's got aliens, hive creatures, cybernetic worms, humans struggling for survival in a surreal world and a heroine that saves her people not only from slavery but from extinction; I'm afraid not a lot of American critics liked it very much (Rotten Tomatoes: 7%) and the users on IMDb only gave it a 6.1/10, but I found it very enjoyable.
